Position Overview

The Business Development Manager – Kenya will play a pivotal role in strengthening the pharmaceutical portfolio through strategic in-licensing, partnerships, and co-development initiatives. Reporting to the General Manager – Business Development and Portfolio Management and the Country Manager – Kenya, the role drives opportunity identification, partner engagement, and deal execution to expand the company’s presence and product pipeline across key markets.

Key Responsibilities

  • Identify and evaluate potential in-licensing, co-development, distribution, acquisition, and strategic partnership opportunities to enhance the product portfolio.
  • Continuously scout the global pharmaceutical landscape for innovative and differentiated products and technologies.
  • Conduct commercial, financial, and strategic evaluations of business opportunities.
  • Develop business cases and valuation models for potential deals.
  • Assess market potential, regulatory feasibility, competitive landscape, and resource requirements for proposed transactions.
  • Build and maintain relationships with global development partners, manufacturers, distributors, and strategic collaborators.
  • Support deal structuring, negotiation, and contract finalization with potential partners.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders to ensure alignment during deal execution and integration of new products.
  • Monitor regional and global pharmaceutical market trends, competitor activities, and regulatory developments.
  • Ensure all business development activities comply with internal policies, legal regulations, and industry standards.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in pharmacy.
  • Experience: 5–8 years in pharmaceutical business development, licensing, or portfolio acquisitions; experience in generic or specialty pharma preferred.
  • Leadership: Reports to senior management; collaborates cross-functionally with global and regional teams.
  • Technical Expertise: B2B pharmaceutical business models, licensing, co-development, distribution, partnerships, regulatory pathways, commercialization strategies, financial modeling, business case development, market research, competitive intelligence, contract review, and deal structuring.
  • Soft Skills: Strong negotiation, influencing, presentation, and stakeholder management skills; entrepreneurial mindset; strategic and analytical thinking; high integrity and professionalism.
