Position Overview
The Secretary General serves as the highest governing authority of the Foundation, responsible for providing strategic leadership, institutional direction, and governance oversight to advance its mission across pharmaceutical education, medical research, innovation, public health, and ethical healthcare practices. The role involves leading the Governing Council, building national and global collaborations, and ensuring the highest standards of scientific integrity, transparency, and impact.
Key Responsibilities
1. Strategice Leadership & Vision
• Define and articulate the long-term vision, mission, and strategic objectives of the Foundation.
• Guide initiatives related to promotion of pharmaceutical sciences, medical sciences, biomedical r research, healthcare innovation, and capacity building.
• Ensure alignment of all programs with national healthcare priorities.
2. Governance & Board Leadership
• Preside over meetings of Governing Council. • Ensure effective governance in accordance with the Foundation’s constitution, bylaws, and applicable laws.
• Facilitate informed decision-making and maintain a culture of accountability and ethical conduct.
• Formulation of work policies, regulations, and governance frameworks.
• Oversee performance of committees and senior leadership.
3. Academic & Scientific Advancement
• Promote excellence in pharmaceutical education, medical education, clinical research, translational research, and public health initiatives.
• Support development of training programs, fellowships, scholarships, scientific conferences, and publications.
• Encourage interdisciplinary collaboration between pharmacy, medicine, biotechnology, and healthcare sciences.
4. Stakeholder Engagement & Representation
• Act as the principal ambassador and public representative of the Foundation.
• Build strategic partnerships with:
- Universities and medical colleges
- Research institutions
- Pharmaceutical & healthcare industries
- Government bodies & regulators
- International scientific organizations
- Represent the Foundation at national and international forums
5. Oversight of Executive Leadership
• Review organizational performance and strategic execution
6. Ethics, Integrity & Social Responsibility
• Uphold the highest standards of scientific ethics, medical ethics, and social responsibility.
• Promote transparency, inclusivity, and evidence-based decision-making.
• Ensure activities contribute meaningfully to public health and societal well-being.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Experience: Senior scientific or academic leader (typically 50+) with national stature and deep credibility.
- Leadership: Proven background as a senior professor, institute leader, Vice-Chancellor, Chancellor, or equivalent.
- Technical Expertise: Demonstrated understanding of pharmaceutical innovation, clinical research, and capacity building.
- Soft Skills: Strong academic and nation-building mindset; ability to execute, collaborate, and scale initiatives.
- Comfortable operating in an NGO environment that values influence, agility, and delivery over hierarchy.
