Position Overview

The Deputy Chief Executive Officer (Deputy CEO) will work closely with the current CEO to drive the Association’s strategic agenda and operational excellence. This role offers a unique opportunity to transition into the CEO position in due course, subject to performance, and will be based in Mumbai, India.

Key Responsibilities

  • Represent the interests of Indian shipowners across commercial, legal, financial, taxation, and technical domains.
  • Build and sustain strong relationships with regulators, policymakers, and government authorities.
  • Establish effective communication channels with key decision-makers across ministries and government bodies.
  • Develop strategic connections with senior stakeholders to enable timely intervention on critical issues.
  • Represent the Indian shipping industry at national and international forums with professionalism and credibility.
  • Monitor emerging industry developments and evolving regulatory frameworks.
  • Brief industry leaders and recommend proactive strategies and actions.
  • Strengthen engagement with national and international associations and facilitate dialogue between industry and government.
  • Ensure adherence to statutory and regulatory requirements, overseeing internal audits and compliance processes.
  • Provide financial oversight, ensuring optimal utilization of member contributions and disciplined cost control.
  • Guide budget preparation and assess initiatives based on industry dynamics and regulatory priorities.
  • Lead and develop the team’s knowledge of industry trends, ensuring alignment with ongoing issues and implications.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Experience: At least 25 years of professional experience, including a minimum of 5 years in senior leadership roles.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage diverse teams and engage effectively with government, regulators, and industry bodies.
  • Technical Expertise: Background in the shipping or logistics industry preferred; Master Mariner or Marine Chief Engineer with shore-based experience desirable.
  • Soft Skills: Strong communication with Ministers and high-level officials; ability to articulate complex concepts clearly in writing and speech; analytical understanding of technical and commercial implications of regulatory developments.
  • Additional Requirement: Must provide a formal declaration of no conflict of interest with stakeholders or members.
