Position Overview

The Head - Engineering & Projects (Sr.GM/AVP) role exists to lead the Engineering function and Capital Projects, ensuring high asset reliability, safe and efficient plant operations, successful execution of capital projects, utility availability, and continuous improvement in engineering performance. This position reports directly to the COO and is based in Atchutapuram, Vizag.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the Engineering, Maintenance, Utilities, Instrumentation, Electrical, Civil, and Projects teams to deliver operational excellence.
  • Establish and enforce engineering standards, systems, and best practices across the site.
  • Drive a culture of safety, reliability, accountability, and continuous improvement throughout the engineering function.
  • Ensure high equipment reliability and plant availability to meet production targets by improving equipment uptime, Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE), and asset utilization.
  • Develop and implement preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance programs.
  • Lead Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM) initiatives to enhance maintenance effectiveness.
  • Oversee end-to-end execution of CAPEX projects including capacity expansion, debottlenecking, process improvements, automation, infrastructure upgrades, and sustainability projects.
  • Ensure all projects are delivered safely, within approved budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory requirements including the Factories Act, Boiler Regulations, Electrical Safety Standards, PESO, Pollution Control Board, and other relevant engineering, environmental, and safety regulations.
  • Support audits conducted by customers, regulatory authorities, and certification bodies.
  • Prepare and manage annual engineering and maintenance budgets, controlling expenditure while ensuring operational reliability.
  • Optimize lifecycle costs of equipment and infrastructure, delivering annual cost-saving and productivity improvement targets.
  • Build and develop a high-performing engineering and projects team, strengthening technical, behavioral, and leadership capabilities.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Education: B.E./B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering.
  • Experience: 16 to 20 years of engineering maintenance and CAPEX projects experience in chemical, pharma, or specialty chemical industries.
  • Leadership: Proven experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering and projects teams with at least 5-7 years in a leadership role.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong technical knowledge in Mechanical, Electrical, Instrumentation, Utilities, and Civil engineering disciplines; expertise in maintenance strategies including preventive, predictive, and condition-based maintenance; familiarity with Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Reliability-Centered Maintenance (RCM).
  • Soft Skills: Demonstrated leadership and decision-making capabilities; execution excellence; result orientation; budgeting, planning, analytical and problem-solving skills; collaboration and stakeholder management; excellent communication and influencing skills; ability to perform under pressure in a fast-paced chemical production environment.
