Position Overview

The General Manager – Litigation will spearhead all legal matters related to litigation, acting as the company’s representative in courts and with external solicitors. This leadership role ensures the protection of organizational interests, mitigation of liabilities, and alignment of legal strategies with business objectives. The position reports directly to senior management and leads a team of legal professionals.

Key Responsibilities

  • Review all company litigation matters and advise management on strategic legal options.
  • Investigate, research, and analyze legal issues; appoint and manage Advocates/Solicitors based on performance.
  • Attend court proceedings and coordinate with legal representatives for Civil, Criminal, and Arbitration cases.
  • Draft and review responses to legal notices, ensuring timely filings as per court requirements.
  • Negotiate and settle disputes amicably to minimize time and revenue loss.
  • Coordinate with internal departments including design, project, liaison, commercial, and operations for legal documentation and issue resolution.
  • Draft and file complaints, notices, and lawsuits; represent management in appeals and hearings to secure favorable judgments.
  • Monitor amendments, notifications, and judgments from government institutions; advise management on implications for business plans.
  • Maintain legal databases and MIS for reference; recommend corrective actions to prevent legal exposure.
  • Lead and mentor Legal Managers and junior staff to ensure timely and effective delivery of legal work.
  • Negotiate with solicitor firms on commercials and terms; manage departmental budgets and ensure cost control.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Law / Solicitor qualification.
  • Experience: 18+ years in litigation, with mandatory Property Litigation experience.
  • Leadership: Proven ability to manage legal teams and coordinate with senior management and cross-functional departments.
  • Technical Expertise: Strong knowledge of Real Estate Laws, Property and Land Transactions, due diligence, and governmental proceedings; familiarity with Transfer of Property Act, Land Revenue Act, Civil Procedure Code (CPC), Bharat Nyaysahita, Electricity Act, NHA Act, and Municipal Corporation Act.
  • Soft Skills: Strategic, analytical, negotiation-driven, and adept at influencing favorable legal outcomes.
