Position Overview
The Chief Financial Officer role exists to guide and empower the company’s financial systems, ensuring continued success through strategic analysis, capital raising, and adaptation to change. This executive position has a day-to-day impact on operations and reports as a key member of senior management, requiring clear and effective communication skills.
Key Responsibilities
- Take responsibility for all cash management, investments, budgeting, and financial reporting, driving the company’s financial strategy and hiring needs.
- Coordinate development of annual operating, capital, and program budgets, ensuring accurate reporting and compliance.
- Ensure cash flow aligns with operations by overseeing day-to-day accounting, recording, reporting, and internal controls.
- Develop and implement best practices and tools to maintain strong fiscal management, project coordination, cross-team communication, and efficient workflows.
- Comply with national and local financial regulations by monitoring legislation and taking appropriate action.
- Collaborate with senior managers to develop budget proposals, provide project finance information, and ensure contract and grant compliance.
- Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, analyze internal operations, and identify cost reduction and process enhancement areas.
- Perform risk management by analyzing liabilities and investments, managing capital structure, and leading fundraising initiatives.
- Monitor business performance using tracking tools, establish corrective measures, and prepare detailed reports for earnings calls and management.
- Manage finance personnel and oversee financial IT systems, ensuring compliance with regulatory entities such as the Financial Accounting Standards Board and Internal Revenue Service.
Required Experience & Qualifications
- Experience: Ten to fifteen years of overall experience, including five or more years in executive leadership roles.
- Leadership: Proven leadership skills with steadfast resolve and personal integrity, capable of managing finance teams and influencing senior stakeholders.
- Technical Expertise: Advanced knowledge of accounting, regulatory issues, tax planning, and capital raising beyond traditional credit lines.
- Soft Skills: Exceptional verbal, written, and visual communication skills, with the ability to operate effectively at the executive level.
- Preferred Qualifications: Professional degree such as CA or equivalent in accounting, business accounting, or finance; international finance experience; expertise in mergers and acquisitions and investor relations; professional certification like Certified Public Accountant.
