Position Overview

The Portfolio Manager will drive the strategic planning, evaluation, and optimization of the pharmaceutical product portfolio across the product lifecycle. Reporting to the Vice President / Head – Portfolio Management (or Business Unit Head), this role collaborates with multiple functions to maximize portfolio value, accelerate commercialization, and support sustainable business growth.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute portfolio strategies aligned with business objectives and therapeutic area priorities.
  • Build long-term product roadmaps covering new introductions, lifecycle management, line extensions, and portfolio rationalization.
  • Assess market trends, competitive intelligence, unmet medical needs, and customer insights to identify growth opportunities.
  • Evaluate pipeline assets, in-licensing opportunities, and new product proposals based on commercial potential, strategic fit, and financial return.
  • Establish objective prioritization frameworks considering risk, investment requirements, market attractiveness, and expected ROI.
  • Lead cross-functional collaboration with R&D, Clinical Development, Regulatory Affairs, Medical Affairs, Intellectual Property, Commercial, Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Finance, and Quality teams.
  • Develop lifecycle strategies to maximize commercial performance of existing brands and identify opportunities for enhancements and geographic expansion.
  • Monitor therapeutic area dynamics, competitor pipelines, patent expiries, pricing trends, and reimbursement landscapes.
  • Support allocation of R&D investments, manufacturing capacity, and commercial budgets to optimize portfolio value.
  • Track development milestones, regulatory submissions, clinical progress, and commercialization timelines to manage portfolio risks.
  • Partner with Commercial, Marketing, Sales, and Medical Affairs teams to ensure launch readiness and post-launch optimization.
  • Maintain portfolio governance processes and performance dashboards to support executive decision-making.

Required Experience & Qualifications

  • Education: Bachelor's degree in Pharmacy, Life Sciences, Biotechnology, or related discipline; MBA or postgraduate qualification preferred.
  • Experience: 8–12 years in pharmaceutical industry roles including Portfolio Management, Product Management, Business Development, Strategy, Commercial Excellence, or R&D.
  • Leadership: Experience managing pharmaceutical portfolios across multiple therapeutic areas and working with cross-functional leadership teams in a matrix organization.
  • Technical Expertise: Pharmaceutical portfolio management, product lifecycle management, commercial strategy, market analysis, financial modelling, forecasting, competitive intelligence, regulatory and intellectual property awareness, project and program management, data analytics.
  • Soft Skills: Strategic and analytical thinking, strong business and commercial acumen, problem-solving, decision-making, effective cross-functional collaboration and influencing, results-oriented execution, excellent communication and presentation skills, ability to manage multiple priorities, high ownership and accountability.
