Position Overview
The National Key Account Manager – Modern Trade will lead and grow the Modern Trade business across national and regional retail chains. This role is responsible for driving sales growth, managing strategic customer relationships, executing joint business plans, and ensuring strong in-store visibility and commercial excellence. It requires a deep understanding of the FMCG Modern Trade ecosystem, strong negotiation skills, and cross-functional collaboration to achieve business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
Own the Modern Trade business and deliver revenue, profitability, and growth targets across assigned national and regional key accounts.Build and maintain strong relationships with key retail partners, buyers, and category managers.Develop and execute Joint Business Plans (JBPs) aligned with customer and company objectives.Lead annual commercial negotiations, including trading terms, promotions, listing fees, and new product launches.Drive assortment expansion, distribution, visibility, and shelf placement across key accounts.Plan and execute promotional calendars and in-store activations to maximize sales and brand visibility.Monitor sales performance, secondary sales, inventory levels, and stock availability to ensure healthy business performance.Collaborate closely with Supply Chain, Marketing, Finance, Category, and Demand Planning teams for seamless execution.Analyze market trends, customer performance, competitor activities, and shopper insights to identify growth opportunities.Ensure timely collections, claim settlements, and adherence to commercial agreements.Prepare business reviews, sales forecasts, and account performance reports for internal stakeholders.
Required Experience & Qualifications
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Business, Marketing, Commerce, or a related field; MBA preferred.Experience: 10–15 years of experience in FMCG sales with significant exposure to Modern Trade and Key Account Management.Leadership: Proven experience managing national retail chains such as Reliance Retail, D-Mart, Star Bazaar, and Nature’s Basket.Technical Expertise: Strong commercial acumen with experience in annual negotiations, Joint Business Planning, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, presentation, and stakeholder management skills; ability to work in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
