Job Title: Head Retail

About the client: PSS has been mandated to hire a Head - Retail for the fastest-growing Indian footwear brand. 

Job Purpose:

The Head of Retail will be instrumental in shaping and executing the brand's retail strategy, driving operations, and overseeing its expansion. This leader will spearhead retail strategy development, manage the growth into new markets, build and oversee franchise models, and optimize retail operations to elevate the company’s brand presence and visibility across India.

 

Key Responsibilities:

 1. Retail Strategy & Expansion

● Develop and implement a comprehensive retail strategy for the company, focusing on brand expansion and visibility.

● Lead the creation of strategy and expansion of retail stores, managing EBO (Exclusive Brand Outlets), MBO (Multi-Brand Outlets), and FOFO (Franchise Owned Franchise Operated) models.

● Identify and assess new markets, regions, and locations for store expansion across cities.

● Set ambitious retail growth targets and monitor progress toward achieving them.

 

2. Location Scouting & Property Acquisition

● Conduct thorough market research to identify prime locations for new stores.

● Evaluate real estate options, negotiate terms, and finalize property acquisitions.

● Work closely with real estate agents, developers, and landlords to secure the best possible retail locations.

 

3. Retail Operations Oversight

● Collaborate with teams across the company to ensure efficient retail operations, focusing on customer experience, sales targets, and brand presentation.

● Monitor and optimize retail performance, ensuring stores consistently meet sales targets and KPIs.

● Ensure all retail outlets adhere to the company’s brand standards, aesthetics, and operational procedures.

 

4. Financial Management & P&L Accountability

● Oversee the budget for retail expansion and store operations, ensuring the optimal use of resources.

● Track store performance, analyze financial results, and implement cost optimization strategies.

● Take accountability for the P&L of retail outlets, ensuring profitability and revenue growth.

 

5. Team Leadership & Development

● Lead and mentor a high-performing team of retail managers and store staff.

● Develop and coach to ensure retail managers and staff are well-equipped to provide exceptional customer service and drive sales.

● Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the retail team.

 

6. Market Intelligence & Competitor Analysis

● Conduct regular market research to understand industry trends, competitor strategies, and customer preferences.

● Use market insights to refine retail strategies and maintain company’s competitive edge.

 

7. Cross-Functional Collaboration

● Work closely with the marketing, product, and supply chain teams to ensure seamless integration between retail and other business functions.

● Collaborate with other departments to execute effective promotions, seasonal campaigns, and customer loyalty programs.

 

8. Compliance & Legal Matters

● Ensure all retail stores comply with local regulations, laws, and health/safety standards.

● Oversee legal documentation related to leases, franchise agreements, and store openings.

 

9. Brand Positioning & Customer Experience

● Elevate company’s brand positioning within retail spaces, focusing on delivering a unique and memorable customer experience.

● Ensure that retail outlets align with the brand’s sustainability and eco-friendly values, reinforcing company’s commitment to environmental responsibility.

 

Educational Qualifications And Experience:

● 10+ years of experience in retail management, with a strong focus on store expansion and franchise management in the footwear industry (mandatory).

● Proven track record in developing and managing retail expansion strategies and optimizing store performance, and ROI.

● Demonstrated business expansion in past roles.

● Must have experience in leading Pan India Retail.

● Strong network with malls and leading high street retail establishments.

● Deep knowledge of retail dynamics in India.

● Strong financial acumen, with experience managing retail P&L.

● Exceptional leadership, communication, and negotiation skills.

● Ability to drive innovation while maintaining brand integrity and customer loyalty.
